A service place round here always has great lines outside at weekends. They do a free car wash with each oil change. They usually get upsells to have the car cleaned inside as well.

And a “winter inspection” sounds like you’ll just tell me a bunch of crap is wrong with my car when it isn’t. Buy one get one free oil change is no good, either. It’ll be at least 3 months before I see the benefits of that. People want instant gratification.
So many people drive around with their check engine lights on, thinking “It’s nothing major because my car is still running.” When they see the free offer, they’ll go in to get it checked out and know that whatever’s wrong, you’re telling the truth – they saw the warning light on themselves. People are wary about mechanics to begin with and you need to start off on a good foot.
How about a coupon that they might give to a friend for $ 10 off on any service, with the catch that the existing customer would get their next oil change free or some sort of discount. This would have the advantages of both getting your customers to recruit new customers for you and bringing your existing customers back for more services.
